A Captivating Journey Through Chrysoloras Winery: Explore the Vineyards and Wines of Serifos
We invite you to the enchanting "Chrysoloras" winery in Serifos to a unique wine tourism experience. Your visit begins with a guided tour of the production areas, where you'll discover the secrets of winemaking and see up close the machinery and techniques used. You'll also explore the beautiful vineyards, cultivated organically in idyllic locations such as Platis Gialos and Korakas.
The tour concludes with a wine tasting, offering you the chance to savor varieties like "Serifiotiko," Mandilaria, and other distinctive wines from the winery. Of course, you can purchase your favorite wines directly on-site.
The winery is located at an altitude of 400 meters, facing north. On days when the meltemi winds blow, it is recommended to bring a light jacket.
The certified organic vineyards of Chrysoloras winery are located in northern Serifos, in areas such as Platis Gialos, Korakas, Fyrivolada, and Flaskos, where the winery is also situated.
The cultivation is done manually at every stage of the process. The steep terrain does not allow for heavy machinery, only small hand-operated tools. In areas where even these cannot fit, digging is done by hand. The vines are trained in a very low "goblet" style or spread-out form. There is no topping or shoot-thinning, allowing the plants to develop natural self-defense mechanisms against strong winds and high temperatures. During the harvest season, grapes from the most inaccessible vineyards are transported to the winery by mules and donkeys.
Primarily, Cycladic grape varieties are grown, such as Serifiotiko, Mandilaria, Monemvasia, and Assyrtiko, as well as other classic Greek varieties like Roditis, Alepou, and Savvatiano.
Efforts are being made to research, preserve, and experiment with the vinification of rare Cycladic varieties, such as Platyrracho, Psarosyriko, Xylomachairou, and others.
Our vineyards are completely dry-farmed, planted on terraces (locally called "louria"), and due to the arid, warm climate, organic cultivation is made much easier. Notably, the island has never been affected by phylloxera, resulting in a significant number of ungrafted vines.
*Families with young children should exercise caution, as children must be strictly supervised due to the nature of the terrain, especially in the vineyard and around sensitive machinery. For safety reasons, children under the age of 14 are not permitted in the production areas during the tour.
*Pets are allowed in all outdoor spaces, provided they are on a leash, and safety and hygiene regulations are observed.
